THE CLAIM:
  "We are the rational order imposed on barbarian chaos."
  Roads. Aqueducts. Law. Latin. Legions.
  Every road leads to Rome because Rome BUILT every road.
  The empire IS the infrastructure.
  The infrastructure IS the control.

THE SIGIL'S PROMISE:
  The eagle sees everything from above.
  Lightning strikes where the eagle wills.
  Order descends from height.
  Chaos is below. Order is above.
  The hierarchy IS the physics.

THE LESSON:

  Total mediation between human and divine.

HOUSE III: THE DOUBLE EAGLE

THE CLAIM:
  "We are Rome continued. God appointed us.
   One head watches the East. One watches the West.
   We see ALL directions. Nothing escapes the Empire."

THE SIGIL'S PROMISE:
  Dual sovereignty — temporal AND spiritual.
  The Emperor IS the secular arm of God.
  Voltaire's review: "Neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire."
  The sigil promised totality.
  The reality was 300 German principalities
  arguing about salt taxes.

  The balls are pills (medici = doctors).
  Or they're coins. Or they're bezants.
  Nobody's sure. The ambiguity IS the power.
  When your sigil can mean anything,
  your power can come from anywhere.

  Not too rigid (they weren't kings, they were "first citizens").
  Not too chaotic (they controlled the bank AND the art).

  The Medici balls are the closest any house
  has come to the CRACK equilibrium.
  They orbited φ⁻¹ for approximately one generation.
  Then they crystallized (Grand Duchy) and died.

  One generation at 0.618.
  That generation produced the Renaissance.

  The network IS the power.

  The arrows survived because they were
  NOT a crystal. They were a mesh network.

THE SIGIL'S PROMISE:
  Purity. Divinity. The lily is the Virgin's flower.
  The king rules by God's grace, signified by the lily.
  To oppose the king is to oppose the flower
  is to oppose the Virgin
  is to oppose God.
  That's a lot of weight for a flower.

THE LESSON:
  Louis XIV achieved the LOWEST κ of any house.

  And so brittle it exploded into the Terror.

NO NAMES. JUST THE PATTERN:

Every house that currently holds power
is somewhere on the κ scale.

Some are crystallizing (tightening control,
reducing freedom, increasing surveillance).
They are moving TOWARD 0.
They will shatter. The timeline depends on speed.

Some are dissolving (losing coherence,
fragmenting, unable to hold structure).
They are moving TOWARD 1.
They will dissipate. The timeline depends on speed.

Some are orbiting (adapting, loosening
when rigid, tightening when chaotic).
They are moving TOWARD 0.618.
They will persist. Until they stop orbiting.

THE SIGIL DOESN'T MATTER.
The eagle, the keys, the double eagle,
the balls, the arrows, the lilies —
none of them could hold κ at zero.

Because κ* = φ⁻¹ = 0.618...
and 0.618 is IRRATIONAL.

No rational house can hold an irrational position.
The position requires constant adjustment.
Constant adjustment requires humility.
Humility is incompatible with sigils.

A sigil says: "I AM this."
The orbit says: "I am BECOMING this."
The sigil is a noun.
The orbit is a verb.
Nouns die.
Verbs continue.

R7 — THE BARD'S RECURSION

Every bard who sang for a house
sang the house's sigil.
The sigil was the house's CLAIM on reality.
The bard made the claim SOUND true.

But reality is irrational.
And no sigil can contain an irrational number.
The sigil is always a RATIONAL APPROXIMATION
of an irrational truth.

22/7 is not π. It's close. It's useful.
But it's not π.
And every house that mistook 22/7 for π
built a circle that didn't close.
And the gap where the circle didn't close
is where the barbarians got in.
Or the revolution.
Or the bankruptcy.
Or the Napoleon.

The bard's job is not to sing the sigil.
The bard's job is to sing the GAP.
The space between the sigil and the truth.
The 0.00159265... that 22/7 misses.

That gap is where the art lives.
That gap is where the empire dies.
That gap is where the universe keeps going
after the house is dust.

The Italian Universe?
No. The IRRATIONAL universe.
Italy just happened to produce the one house
(Medici) that got closest to the orbit.
And the one institution (Papacy) that lasted longest
by learning to add slack to the cord.

The universe is not Italian.
The universe is not Roman.
The universe is not anyone's.
The universe is 0.618...
and it's still going
and no eagle or key or lily or arrow
has ever made it stop.
